Robinson's height, reach, and superior speed were on display over the first three rounds with SRR landing effectively with the jab and long right end. Over the next three rounds, Robinson had his moments but Hagler was imposing his superior strength and landing effectively to the body.
Robinson's overhand right landed like a whip in round 7, shaking Hagler. Sugar Ray carried the 8th round as well, tagging Hagler with punches from all angles. The pace was blistering in round 9 pitting Robinson's great speed against Hagler's power and precision as the fighters traded on the inside.
Robinson seemed to tire a bit and Hagler took advantage carrying rounds 10 and 11. Both men were suffering from cuts over the left eye by the end of the 11th round. Robinson rallied in rounds 12 and 13 with tremendous combination punching. Hagler rocked Robinson in the 14th with a sneaky right uppercut. Hagler tried to press but Robinson battled back with everything in his arsenal.
Both men were exhausted in the 15th round. In the final minute, Hagler landed a solid left hook from the orthodox stance and Robinson responded with a wicked right that snapped Hagler's head back. Both fighters embraced as the fight came to an end.
