#7) Stanley Ketchel vs. #10) Jake Lamotta:
This was a brutal war with both fighters penalized early for repeated low blows. The fight was even after 8 rounds, with Ketchel the more powerful puncher, but Lamotta more accurate, landing 47% of his punches compared with 36% for Ketchel.
In the 10th round, a Ketchel head butt opened a nasty gash over Lamotta's right eye. Enraged, Lamotta responded with a vicious left to the groin sending Ketchel to the canvas and sparking a riot in the ring. After several minutes, the war continued. After the 12th, both fighters were threatened with potential disqualification over low blows.
In the final rounds, Ketchel's superior power and Lamotta's deteriorating vision took their toll. The "Michigan Assassin" took control. Lamotta absorbed a
severe beating but refused to fall and the fight would go to the scorecards.
Ketchel was awarded a close, unanimous decision on the judges scorecards: 142-139, 142-140, 141-140.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler vs Gene Fullmer: Fullmer pressured Hagler early and had a slight edge over the first few rounds. Hagler took command in the 4th and dominated the next several rounds with crisp, accurate punching. By the end of the 11th, Fullmer was well behind on points and cut over both eyes.
It was target practice for Hagler in the 12th and 13th as he administered a frightful beating to Fullmer, who's face was now a bloody mask. Fullmer was badly hurt but refused to fall. In the 14th, Hagler landed a vicious left uppercut which dropped Fullmer for an eight count. A few seconds later, Hagler closed the show with a tremendous right which prompted the referee to step in and stop the fight.
Hagler wins TKO 14 and advances to the round of 8.
