#1) Muhammad Ali vs #5) Sonny Liston: In their third matchup, Ali dominated the first 6 rounds with his speed, movement and outstanding jab. Liston rocked Ali in the 7th with a left hook. Ali stayed on his bicycle in the 8th, while Liston stalked, looking to land the big shot that would finish Ali. Ali regained his legs and reassumed command in rounds 9-11, picking Liston apart on the outside. By the 12th, Liston was exhausted and swollen under both eyes. It was now target practice for Ali. Ali dropped Liston in the 13th with a right. Liston managed to beat the count but didn’t have a leg under him. The referee stopped the fight. Ali TKO 13.
#2) Joe Frazier vs #3) Larry Holmes: Holmes was effective with the jab over the first four rounds. Frazier rocked Holmes with a left hook in the 5th and pounded him to the body over the next two rounds. Holmes rocked Frazier with a straight right in the 8th round and continued his momentum in the 9th and 10th, out boxing Frazier. Frazier turned the tide again in the 11th with vicious body work. He floored Holmes in the 12th with a left hook. Holmes barely beat the count and reeled across the ring but survived the round. Holmes fought back in the 13th but his legs appeared to be gone. Frazier trapped Holmes against the ropes in the 14th and teed off, prompting the referee to stop the fight. Frazier TKO 14.
