Joe Louis vs Muhammad Ali
Ali has a slight edge in a slow paced first round, dancing and flicking his left jab while Louis patiently stalks. In round 2, Ali lands a sneaky right that drops Louis. Louis is up at 3, appearing more embarrassed than hurt. Ali dominates round 3 as his speed and movement are too much for Louis early in the fight. In the 4th, Ali lands a nifty 3 punch combination that snaps Louis’ head back as the round comes to a close.
Louis starts to find the range in the 5th with his jab landing effectively over Ali’s low right hand. In the 6th, Louis backs Ali against the ropes for the first time in the fight, punishing him to the body. Louis finds the opening he’s been looking for in the 7th, landing a left hook, right cross combination that staggers Ali. Ali reels along the ropes while Louis fires away. Ali manages to survive the round but his legs are rubbery as he returns to the corner.
Ali spends round 8 on his bicycle as he recuperates from the beating in the 7th. Louis pursues but is unable to find the opening he’s looking for. Ali’s head clears by the 9th. He continues to move, while Louis stalks. Ali flurries in the final 30 seconds to steal the round. A confident Ali comes out for round 10,moving brilliantly around the ring and stunning Louis twice with blistering combinations. Louis’ left eye is now swollen.

Louis’ is having increasing difficulty seeing out of his left eye. Louis turns the tide in the 12th with a tremendous left hook which rocks Ali. Ali reels on the ropes while Louis fires away. Louis staggers Ali again with a right uppercut. Ali gamely tries to fire back as the round comes to a close.
Louis continues to dominate in the 13th as Ali appears to be tiring. Ali spends most of the round on the ropes while Louis tees off. A vicious left hook from Louis nearly tears Ali’s head at the end of the round.

However, Ali demonstrates remarkable recuperative powers, regaining command in the 14th. Ali now lands his right with impunity as Louis can no longer see it coming. Ali lands a vicious combination that stuns Louis late in the round. By the 15th, both fighters are exhausted, spending most of the round grappling and holding. The action heats up in the final minute with both men landing power shots. Ali brings the crowd to its feet with a flurry in the final 15 seconds.
