#1) Muhammad Ali vs #8) Earnie Shavers: Ali dominated this fight from the beginning with his tremendous speed and movement. Shavers only landed 23% of his punches and never found Ali with his vaunted power shots. By the 9th round, Ali’s razor sharp punches left Shavers badly bloodied over both eyes. The referee stepped in and put an end to the slaughter. Ali TKO 9.
#4) George Foreman vs #5) Sonny Liston: Liston carried the first two rounds, landing his jab effectively against Foreman. Foreman landed a tremendous right uppercut which dropped Liston in the 3th. He dropped Liston again in the 4th with a left hook and tried to move in for the finish. However, Liston landed a desperation right which dropped Foreman as the round came to a close. By the 5th, Foreman appeared to be tiring. Liston floored an exhausted Foreman twice in the 6th, prompting the referee to step in and stop the fight. Liston TKO 6
#2) Joe Frazier vs #7) Ken Norton: Norton had the edge over a slow starting Frazier over the first four rounds, countering effectively. Frazier rocked Norton in the 5th with left hook battered him over the next two rounds. Frazier dropped Norton in the 7th with a tremendous left hook. The referee rescued a defenseless Norton 30 seconds later, stopping the fight. Frazier TKO 7.
#3) Larry Holmes vs #6) Floyd Patterson: Holmes had difficulty with Patterson’s speed early. Patterson held a slight lead after 8 rounds. Holmes turned the tide with a wicked right that dropped Patterson to one knee in the 9th. Holmes then found the range with the jab and right hand and by the 13th, Patterson was badly swollen under both eyes. Holmes dropped Patterson twice in the 14th forcing a stoppage of the fight. Holmes TKO 14.
