New England capitalized adding an Adam Vinatieri 40 yard field goal to extend the lead to 10-0 early in the 2nd quarter. Warner drove the Rams 61 yards. However, they settled for a Jeff Wilkins 37 yard field goal narrowing the lead to 10-3. Warner connected with Marshall Faulk for a 43 yard touchdown to tie game 10-10 at the end of the half.
Warner found Isaac Bruce for a 19 yard touchdown as the Rams took a 17-10 lead midway through the 3rd quarter. The Rams drove into Patriots territory again early in the 4th quarter. Tedy Bruschi forced a Faulk fumble derailing the drive at the New England 21. Brady then connected with Deion Branch for a 22 yard touchdown tying the game at 17-17 with 7:11 remaining.
The Rams responded driving to the New England 14. On 3rd and 2 from the 14, Warner dropped back to pass but was sacked by Willie Mcginest. The Rams settled for a Wilkins field goal from 41 yards, taking a 20-17 lead with 2:14 remaining. Brady led the Patriots on a drive in the final two minutes, finding David Givens on a key 3rd and 5 conversion to the Rams 17 yard line. This set up a 34 yard Vinatieri field goal tying the game and forcing overtime.
Asante Samuel picked off a Warner pass and returned to the Rams 37 in overtime. Brady found Troy Brown for a 14 yard completion to the Rams 17 to set up a game winning field goal attempt by Vinatieri. Vinatieri’s kick went up and it was good. The 04 Patriots move on to the final four!
